Scaling-up. In 2012 Bosboom was obliged to expand to comply with new government rules. The family company now has 640 sows and an average of 7000 piglets.
The sows are housed together when they pregnant. Each animal has 2.5 m2 run space. The gates on the boxes are only closed when the farmer makes his inspection after feeding time. The yellow feeders are attached to a two-line system which offers the pigs two types of feed. It means that the dosages can be accurately controlled to meet the pigs’ various needs. The doors lead to the farrowing pens.
